  15. In article <3qvp7m$eh2@darwin.nbnet.nb.ca>, Craig Simmons <CSIMMONS@nbnet.nb.ca> says:
  16. >
  17. >Autodesk on the other hand realizes the tight
  18. >fiscal constraints of educational institutions.  22 Copies of 3DStudio at
  19. >an educational price of about $350.00 each is only 7,700.
  20.
  21. OK, if the decision is so easy, go buy 3D Studio.  Or are you just going to
  22. go with the lowest bidder, no matter what?  Yes, of course, Autodesk is
  23. solely concerned with the "fiscal constraints of educational institutions,"
  24. it has nothing to do with any plan to increase market share.  :-)
  25.
  26. I think educational pricing is foolish.  I don't think it encourages
  27. loyalty to a certain product, I think it encourages people (both teachers
  28. and students) to look for the biggest freebies they can find, and that
  29. search becomes all-engrossing.  It teaches the price of everything,
  30. and the value of nothing.
  31.
  32. By the way, it annoys the dealer channel, too, who are often the ones
  33. who are asked to give the nifty demos at your school, before you decide
  34. to end-around and get a cheap price directly from the manufacturer.
  35. And they also get annoyed when you ask them for tech support, too.
